LECHA MOSINYI

Artist Statement

My art is an exploration of memories and identity, deeply rooted in the cultural and personal experiences that shape who we are. Through my portraits, I aim to capture not just the likeness of my subject, but the intangible emotions and stories that lie beneath the surface—fleeting moments, gestures, and feelings that define our relationships and sense of self.

Inspired by my grandmother’s intricately decorated room and the patterns found in everyday objects; utensils, garments, and ornaments. I incorporate floral motifs to introduce meaningful yet decorative elements into my work. These patterns serve as visual symbols of heritage and sentimentality.

My technique emphasizes simplicity and selective detail. I focus on capturing only what is necessary to evoke a sense of familiarity and emotional resonance. I believe that memories and feelings are often incomplete, yet their impact remains profound. This belief informs my approach, that's to say my art intentionally embraces "incompleteness". By avoiding hyper-realism and perfection, I seek to reflect the authenticity of human experience, where small gestures and quiet moments can leave lasting impressions. I convey this through subtle details that resonate with both myself and the viewer.

Ultimately, my art reflects how we carry our histories within us. It invites viewers to consider the significance of the seemingly insignificant and to find beauty in the honest, unembellished moments that shape our identities.
